Where is Groupon Going to be in Two Years? 50% Mobile Sales!
Benjamin Gauthey posted an interesting article from eMoney today stating the Groupon sees half of all sales coming from mobile.
Groupon VP Mobile Partnerships Michael Shim said: “Mobile is huge for Groupon…I believe we could see us doing 50 percent of deals sold/purchased in the next couple of years.”
This statement is indefinitely coming from the recent success of Groupon Now released exclusively in the Chicago area allowing consumers to use their mobile devices to locate great deals on places to eat, activities and even movies. The application is leveraging the change in mobile user’s behavior “What can I find around me?”
With 1,000 merchants already signed up to deliver real time deals to this geo aware mobile users Groupon is expecting mobile to play a big role in their business. So what does this mean for community managers and social media marketers?
- New realm of interaction, connecting digital conversations to real life interactions will become a driver in defining social media ROI
- Engaging not only world wide but hyper local (understanding when someone checks in to your store, are the new or repeat customer) how can you interact with them and what is going to be the key factors to drive sales and loyalty in this new space
- Engaging beyond the store - how can you use local conversations on twitter, facebook etc to create relevant deals and conversations that will drive action to purchase, enter your store or share.
