Nike+ Iphone App Just Released

nike

Nike+ launched about two years ago leading the way for corporate social networks. They built a platform that gave connectivity and interactivity. Obviously this platform had a great appeal for serious runners however, Nike took it to the next level allowing users to communicate with other runner around the globe. Their main leading success factor from this project was adding a gaming element allowing people to challenge one another to provide incentive for people to reach their goals.

Now Nike+ just released their new iPone application that is ready for download [iTunes Link]  now.

Nike+ has leveraged their gaming aspect of their social network in this application by adding in the “Challenge Me” feature. This part of the application helps runners test themselves by competing against their previous times, distances and paces. Beside challenging they’ve also included inspirational quotes from pro athletes and celebrities. – not to sure how motivating that last one is (it might be better if they allowed users personal communities to send them messages) hope you’re listening Nike.

Anyways, the Nike+ GPS App for the iPhone pulls in information from the device’s accelerometer and GPS giving vital information for people looking to get in shape and improve their fitness. One of the coolest add on features for me is that every runner can visually map and track every run. You can also share this information to your personal communities on Facebook and Twitter.  The application is going for $1.99 which isn’t a bad price point at all.

If you want to check try it out let me know and we can challenge each other, I’ll be using this application for all of my runs for the next month.
